Self Care Without the Bubbles
Not gonna lie, for the longest time, when I heard “self-care,” I thought it meant taking bubble baths, wearing face masks, and lighting a candle that cost more than my lunch. Spoiler alert: I’m not great at any of those.
But here’s the truth: self-care can be anything that brings a little joy or calm into your life. For me, that recently (note: in late November 2024) meant picking up something completely random—playing piano. A borrowed keyboard, zero musical experience, and a lot of wrong notes later, I’m having a blast.
(See here: an action shot of me giving this my best effort and making plenty of mistakes but still having fun.)
It’s also been the perfect distraction from endless scrolling on my phone. Plus, when life feels a little heavy, having something new to focus on has helped me work through emotions without overthinking.
So, whether it’s trying yoga, doing some diamond art, playing a musical instrument, trying out your green thumb or taking up bird watching, self-care doesn’t have to come with bubbles or face masks—just something that makes you feel good.
Here’s your challenge: Try something new; what will you try?
